Meet the Artistic Director!
Amber Sumner comes from a family of musicians, and has been singing and playing the piano for as long as she can remember. She grew up in Littlestown, PA where she was involved in every musical activity for which she could find time. She moved to Massachusetts when she married and was selected to sing with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus under John Oliver, which prompted her to return to school for choral conducting. She earned an Associate of Arts in Music from Greenfield Community College, but before she could pursue further education, Amber and her husband Brandon decided to pack up everything and drive to Alaska!
Amber joined the chorus as a singer in 2015, spent several seasons as accompanist, and took the reins as artistic director in 2018. She aims to program concerts which showcase a range of musical styles and eras bound together by a common theme. She dabbles in music composition, and enjoys creating original material for her singers. Amber and her husband also own Game Theory, a gaming and hobby shop in downtown Wasilla, where she and her energetic son, Miles, can be found on an almost daily basis.
Amber is very honored to be working with this fabulous group of volunteer musicians and thanks you for your support of the Mat-Su Community Chorus!
